Logistics Operator Raises Funding for Regional Network

A regional logistics operator closed a funding round this week to build four distribution hubs outside the major metropolitan areas, a bet that next-day delivery expectations have spread to mid-sized cities faster than warehouse capacity has followed.

The company said the new sites will be partly automated, with sorting handled by machine and final packing by staff — a split it argues is more economical than either fully manual or fully automated alternatives at its volume.

Competitors have taken the opposite view, consolidating into fewer, larger facilities. Which approach wins will depend largely on fuel costs and on whether smaller-city order density keeps rising.
